Humphreys Street Studios, Uphams Corner

The History of Humphreys Street Studios

In 2002 Humphreys Street Studios was founded by Joseph Wheelwright and Gneal Widett. It is located in Dorchester, MA. It’s a place where artists rent a space to make things such as tools, sculptures, and sportswear. My favorite part of going to Humphreys Street Studios was visiting the blacksmith’s workshop, and his name was Andy Good. He creates objects from iron, steel, and metal.

Humphreys Street Studios started out as the Daloz Dry Cleaners, owned by the Daloz family. In 1933, the Daloz family traveled by horse to transport clothes for their customers. It now holds up to 40 tenants including designers and painters. The building has 26,000 square feet of rental space. Humphreys Street Studios contributes to the beauty and culture of the Boston community through services and artwork.

Humphreys Street Studios is important to the community because you can buy stuff like sculptures, sportswear, clothing, and artwork from artists. It gives people from the community the opportunity to not only buy things from artists but also to get to know these local artists who work at Humphreys Street Studios. If you want to get clothes you should contact Aaron Higginbottom and Ralph Sanon at The Creative Studio, and you can get fishing hats and different kinds of clothing from him.
